So I spent the weekend pondering options for my CRV replacement plan. The base 3rd gen TL felt a bit too Grandpa Joe for my tastes, and I’m just starting to get sort of burned on this whole plan.
Then I saw a Cressida mkII wagon parked next to a later Volvo 240DL wagon. Like, these guys were funky wagon buddies and went drinking together at 2:30 every Sunday. A lifestyle I could fully engage with, if I’m honest. And it occurred to me that I might be able to find one of these cars at an estate sale or in a newspaper classifieds section. Somewhere an older person might sell their car. Maybe $3500. Then spend a few thousand having it fixed up. Maybe a rebuilt motor, new soft bits, suspension, brakes, electrical upgrades, etc. SO now I’m in for $8,500 or so. Sell the CRV for $13k, bank the difference for repairs and upgrades, and drive a weirdly cool, old car that’s generally reliable and easy to live with.
Quirk and cachet over speed.
Is this nuts?

MR2_FTW has one. There was a 1UZ swapped one around me for sale recently too. Done right, the Cressi-Wagon is SWEET!!

By no means, I’d also throw a w124 wagon into the mix, easier to find than a Cressida and nicer to drive than the Volvo.

I love me some 240, but those Cressida wagons are coming into their own now. I support this idea.

Exactly like that, give it some AMG wheels and you are set.

I wrote him. I need to learn more about the platform - problems, major repairs, that sort of thing.
